The South Coast Regional Center for Social Work Education (SCRC) has long been a key institution in shaping the future of social work professionals in the region. By offering state-of-the-art training, research opportunities, and community engagement programs with a
social aspects, SCRC has become a beacon for those dedicated to social justice and community well-being. Over its 25-year history, the center has produced thousands of alumni who have made significant contributions to social welfare programs both locally and nationally. One of the Center’s best-known supporters, Ruth, is an award-winning journalist and broadcaster who has been on television for more than 25 years. Her investigative journalism and documentaries have brought critical social issues to the forefront of public consciousness, often coinciding with the very values that SCRC promotes. Ruth’s in-depth reporting on topics such as mental health, poverty and social inequality has inspired a generation of social workers and political activists, many of whom were trained by the Center.
Ruth’s passion for people and story-telling, combined with real warmth, empathy and relatability are some of the reasons she has become one of Wales’ best known faces, and voices! Having been on your screens for over 25 years, Ruth is an award winning journalist and programme presenter. Ruth is currently a weather presenter at ITV Wales and Good Morning Britain, and presents Bafta nominated “Coast and Country”. Ruth is also an established radio presenter, having presented for BBC Radio Wales, and more recently hosted the Nation Radio Breakfast Show.
Ruth’s own story became headline news across the globe just a few years ago, when her ex-husband was jailed for domestic abuse. Ruth now combines her public profile and personal experience to help others. Ruth recently fronted a documentary about domestic abuse for ITV’s Tonight programme, and has appeared as a guest on numerous daytime shows, including Loose Women, This Morning, Lorraine, TalkTV, BBC News, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 5,
Ruth has been recognised for her tireless work to educate others about domestic abuse, including an honorary award as Communicator of the Year 2022 by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations. Ruth was delighted to be invited to Buckingham Palace to discuss her experience with Queen Camilla.
Ruth frequently takes part in podcasts, debates, training sessions with front line services and has presented to the Welsh Government and The Criminal Justice Board to name but a few. Ruth is a hugely respected events host, from NHS Wales Awards, to fronting the Welsh Government Climate Change Week, Ruth can draw on her own knowledge and experience to draw out the best in others.
Ruth is vastly experienced at working in studio settings and out on location, reporting live from a whole variety of situations… from weather forecasts and the much loved “And Finally”, to harder news and court reporting. Ruth is adaptable, dependable, creative and quick thinking.
Ruth also has a considerable social media presence, with tens of thousands of dedicated followers across the major platforms. She is always willing to engage and interact with the public.
